Eagle MTB Park

How to get there?

To get to the Eagle MTB Park take the ‘Eagle on the Hill’ exits (Mt Barker Rd) off the South Eastern Freeway. This is the main arterial road linking Adelaide to the east coast of Australia. There are huge blue Eagle MTB Park signs at the freeway exits, so you cant miss it. You can finish your beer in Rundle Street in the city and be at the front gate of Eagle MTB Park in 20 minutes! It’s easy in Adelaide…

The Start will be on the mezanine right in the heart of the race village. We then follow the short course track to the top of the temporary 4X track.
From the top of the 4X we head back down to the mezzanine and then up North Face.  Near the top of North Face we do a hard right and go under the DH crossover at the top of Overlocker.  Immediately the trail splits and we take the left option and continue alongside the new DH track until it heads right, away from the DH.  This is part of Southside, but we will be riding in the opposite direction to normal.  At the intersection where Southside splits, we turn left away from Southside and ride up an old 4WD track to the top of the new DH track.  It is then down this DH track but don’t worry, there are ride arounds on all the stunts and the whole thing can be ridden on a XC bike without any problems.  It is suggested though to either ride this before the race or take it very easy speed wise, otherwise you may be flying when you don’t expect it.We leave the DH track before it gets to the “Old” section (which will be in use by the DH’ers), cross the road and join on to Tunnel Vision. Where Tunnel Vision runs right next to the road (just after the dam) we cut over to the other side of the road behind the new DH start and into Southbound. At the fork on Southbound we take the left hand option and follow it all the way to the fire road. It’s then straight over the fire road and down the switchbacks that mark the start of Sunset Boulevard and then follow this until it links back into Overlocker. Continue down to the bottom DH overpass, turn right into the bottom of North Face and onto the mezzanine for the finish of the lap.

The new XCO track starts in the main village area and follows the XCC course up the edge of the 4X track and back down on a new section before passing the race village again and entering North Face with a very short steep fire road climb. North Face has been significantly modified this year to provide a number of passing opportunities. At the top of the climb the course goes under the DHO track before crossing the access road and entering Tunnel Vision. After the first section of Tunnel Vision the course enters another new section under the power lines which links back onto Tunnel Vision again on the section parallel to the access road. The track then enters another new section, over the tree drop and back into the middle section of Tunnel Vision. This then followed all the way to the top of the park. Here we turn left, through the second feed zone, cross the bitumen access road and enter Hawkeye. At the end of Hawkeye the course turns left and follows the single track along the fence line all the way into Southside. At the halfway point of Southside the course turns right and follows the single track down to the top of Sunset Boulevard, enters Overlocker and follows that all the way under the DHO and climbs back up to the start finish area.

The DH course has seen some major changes this year with an extended finish and a more world cup style middle section with wider track and multiple line options. The best elements of last years National track remain with a focus on flow with reward for those riders who can keep momentum and hit the A lines.

4X COURSE DESCRIPTION

This brand new purpose built 4X track has more lines that a shakespear play. The track starts with a steep downramp with just enough room to get a couple of pedals in.
From there you are faced with the first of many obstacles. A small drop followed by a staggered raised rock garden. You will have to scope this out to find your line. Then its into the split berm. It doesn’t matter if you choose inside or outside, at the end you are faced with the first of many jumps. Outside is the larger step down and inside is a smaller booter. From here there is a triple which you can manual, double or tripple.
Then into a flatter berm on the outside or a tight inside bermed line. You are then faced with a field of staggered doubles and triples. Decisions decisions!! When you come out of the field its a big roll over into another flat berm. You will have to get this one right because you are then faced with a 2 option double and you will need your speed for the fast outside line, or choose the easier inside line that doesn’t have a rock garden to navigate.
After another big right hander hip you are looking at the last double. You can roll through on the inside or rock star finish on the outside. Either way you will have to get on the ground and get on the pedals. There is a few carefully place rocks left to navigate before crossing thee finish line.
If you did it all bang on you can walk from here to your rightful place on the SRAM Champs Podium.
